Do I need trekking poles or walking sticks?
Walking sticks are not necessary on the Annapurna Base Camp trek but they can be helpful. Trekking poles are also not necessary but they can help in steep areas and steep descents.
If you do decide to use poles, make sure you don’t carry them over your shoulder as this will cause injury to your neck and back. Poles should instead be carried under both arms with the handle sticking out in front of you.
Trekking poles come in different types but I want to Talk about two different poles which are my favorites. Leki (aluminum) or Black Diamond (carbon fiber). Both are strong, light, and sturdy so it comes down to personal preference. Carbon fiber is less likely to break than aluminum, but aluminum is the lighter weight which makes it better for extended periods of time carrying a heavy load.
